Horses, the Countryside, and Randomness

Hello all!
Yes it has been a little while since I did a post. A good post. And what kind of post would it be if I didn't put some photos in. In fact, I've been thinking... I do so many posts that are basically just pictures, I was thinking what if I changed the name of my blog to TKB Photography? What do you all think? I mean every once in a while I might do a "wordy" post, book or movie review, etc. So what do you all think? Please, please tell me what you think. I really want to know so I can make up my mind. :)

Oh, and since my dad has started teaching me how to drive, I've learned a lot. And some exciting news... for me that is... I got to drive on the road!! I got to drive up to 25 miles an hour! Okay so maybe that's not exciting to some of you, but when you're used to a riding lawn mower that maybe goes 10 mph, then that's pretty exciting. And I stayed on my side of the road (kinda the idea anyway). :)

So anyway, about a week or two ago my dad took all of us kids to go a couple of hours away to run an errand. The drive took us through the country (yippee!), and we were near a friends house, so we also stopped by there as well. I brought my camera and of course, took some pictures. :)

 I'm a just a little addicted to this lovely, sweet, delicious chocolate chips. :)

I really love the editing job I did on these photos, don't you? I find out something new almost every time I use Picnik.

Random Photography

Here's just some random photography I decided to share with you all. :) Some of these pictures would be excellent for desktops (just click on the picture first to make it bigger, then save it), so if you use any then please leave a comment letting me know. :) And I made the watermark smaller than usual so you could use the picture and not be bothered with it too much.

Can You Hear the Who's?

I'm sure that most of you know at least some of the Dr. Seuss books. They're some of my favorites. So when I saw this picture that I took with my new camera, it immediately made me think of the Who's that live on a clover in the story Horton Hears a Who.

I decided to edit the picture and put this quote from the animated movie Horton Hears a Who. :)

Oh, and I will have you know - this is not a clover flower! It's actually a flower from our chives growing in our garden. :)

I Got My Rebel XS Today...

which mercifully charged in only 2 hours! And then I promptly took it outside and started snapping pictures of flowers. In total I took over 200 pictures today (and a couple family members took a few)! Yep, I'm addicted to my camera now. So be prepared to be simply stomped with pictures. :) I don't want to go back to a point and shoot anytime soon, except for taking video. Oh, and I've heard of people naming their cameras and I'd just like to know - why name the camera? I'm just curious. :)

Goodbye Winter, Hello Spring!

 This was the tulip tree in the yard, about a week ago.

 And this is it in full bloom about 3 days later.

There is a huge Forsythia bush out in the yard right now and it sure brightens up the yard with it's yellow blooms. There are lots of these bushes around.

I don't have any idea what bush this is either, but I sure had fun taking this picture and then editing it like this! :)

 This bush was covered with these buds.

 Then when they bloomed, I couldn't resist taking their picture. Aren't they beautiful?

 The bottom nest is an old one found in this bush. No birds have come to it as far as I know. It is a very small nest nestled in between some little branches. It's probably no more than 2 inches across and 4-5 inches deep - a hummingbird nest, maybe? The top nest is in a rusty old can hanging from the clothesline pole.  A bird has been working on it I know, although I don't know what kind of bird it is yet.

To end this post, here is a sunset picture I took. I know it's kind of blurry (I was in an airplane - with some turbulence), but the sunset is beautiful enough to make up for it.

More Pictures...

that I have taken will be coming soon... they are pictures I took when I went to Luray Caverns and some property that used to belong to some ancestors of mine.  They built a house on that property in the Shenandoah Valley in 1730 (and other outbuildings), but the house was destroyed by a tornado in the 1950's. Now all that's left is the chimneys and foundation.  It was neat though. :) But anyway there's a LOT of pictures so sorting and editing is taking a while.

Also there is my 100th post in the near future, and I hope to do a blog party/giveaway... I have to come up with some thing to giveaway, and have an idea, but I am NOT going to tell ya'll.  :)

Appomattox Court House Trip Pictures (and Some Random Ones)

Here are some pictures of my trip to Appomattox Court House (where Lee signed the surrender to Grant, thereby ending the War Between the States).  With a few random ones thrown in... :)

Yes, I promise you I did take this picture!! Amazing, isn't it? :)

The building on the left is the tavern where they published the papers that let the Confederates go free, back to their homes. The building on the right is the general store. Both buildings are original.

I really am sorry, but I didn't get a picture of the outside of the house where Lee signed the surrender document.

Let's see... this was in one of the upstairs bedrooms. Gotta love four poster beds and canopy beds! :)

These are the slave quarters of the man who owned the house when Lee came to surrender. It is an original building.

Another original building in Appomattox Court House.

The picture below is of the inside of the walls of the original jailhouse. The metal framework over the bricks was to keep inmates from gouging out the mortar, removing bricks, and escaping (this is what I'm guessing).

The back of the Court House; the front looks exactly the same, but there were trees blocking the view, so I couldn't take a picture.

There were a few people there re-enacting town life. This is another favorite of mine. :)
